Obituary of Stanley Toporowski

It is with great sadness the family of Stanley Toporowski announce his passing.  Stanley passed away peacefully on Dec 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with illness for 2 years, he was 84 years old.  Stanley devoted his life to his family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him and shared in his life’s journey. 

Stanley was born in Paddockwood, SK on November 28, 1939.  He was the 4^th child of 8 in his family.  Stanley attended school in Paddockwood and graduated in 1957.  Stanley worked in banking after high school in Hudson Bay and Beechy, SK.  He was a Smoke Jumper in the summers of 1961 and 1962, fighting fires in Northern Saskatchewan.  Stanley then worked and lived in Prince Albert, SK.  He began work at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in 1962, where he was employed for 9 years.  During this time Stanley acquired his Accounting Credentials via correspondence and in 1971 he went to work for Woodlands Enterprises in the finance department as an Accountant.  Woodland Enterprises later became a division of Weyerhaeuser where he was employed until his retirement in 2001.  After his retirement Stanley joined his wife Del at Remax  Realty where together they sold Real Estate for 5 years.

Stanley was a sports lover and a talented athlete.  As a child and into adulthood he was an avid baseball player.  He also had a passion for curling.  He skipped many teams over the years and very much enjoyed the skill and strategy of the game along with the comradery of the sport until he became ill.  In 1995 he played the 2^nd position for the Glen Pryor Team.  They were very successful winning the Provincial Senior Men’s Championship and going on to represent Saskatchewan in the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship in St. John, N.B., where they brought home the Silver Medal.  Stanley was the “All Star” in the 2^nd position for the Championships.  His family and friends were extremely proud of him,  along with the entire team and were thrilled to watch the coverage of the games on TSN.  The team was inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Stanley and Delores grew up in Paddockwood, SK and began dating in 1962.  They were married on June 15, 1963.  Their eldest son Jim was born 1964, daughter Debbie in 1967, and son Ted in 1972.  As a family they spent summers at Candle Lake and Besnard Lake.  Stanley “Grandpa” was the best fisherman ever!  As soon as the grandchildren were able to walk, they went fishing with Grandpa.  Stanley was a true outdoorsman.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, picking berries, mushrooms and exploring the forest.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Delores “Del” nee Rohachuk; son, Jim (Melanie), their children, Erica (Luke), Zachary (Brittney) great granddaughters, Blexlyn, Raenna and Rhylie; daughter, Debbie (Brad) her children, Nicholas and great grandson, Jensen and Ben; son, Ted (Leanne) their children Anthony (Olivia) and Nolan; brothers, Alex (Marian), Nick (Jenny); sisters, Jane Toporowski, Helen Maruschak, Diane (Wayne) Sumners; brother-in-law, David (Nancy) Rohachuk; and numerous neices and nephews that were very dear to Stanley.  He was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn (nee Mischuk); father, Harry; stepmother, Victoria (nee Woleski); sisters, Patsy, and Christina; brothers-in-law, Bill Heleta, Mike Maruschak; in-laws, Nick and Kay Rohachuk.

 A private family prayer service will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Hall, 752 - 14th St W, Prince Albert, SK.  Memorial donations in Stanley’s memory may be directed to Pineview Terrace, 1200A 24^th St. W, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4N9.
