Obituary of Douglas Gordon Herrick
Douglas Herrick
Today, we who loved Douglas mourn his passing.
Douglas Gordon Herrick was born on July 10, 1948, in Claresholm, Alberta and joined our Lord on July 1, 2025.
He is survived by his wife, Nola; children Dana Goodwin (Mike) and Chad Herrick; granddaughters Atya and Xenya; sisters Nancy (Ed) and Joyce (Doug); brother Donald; niece Kelsey; nephew Brandon (Shelby); great nephews Cohen, Luca, and Emerson; in laws Larry (Cilla), Norman, and Wendy; numerous other extended family including his special brother Oriol (Anie) and family in Cuba.
Douglas was predeceased by his parents Cliff and Grace; Nola’s parents Jim and Nell; his first wife Jane; all his aunts and uncles and several cousins.
Douglas grew up on farms in the Claresholm and Warner districts until the age of 8 when the family moved to Edmonton. Douglas enjoyed participating in volleyball, basketball, baseball, track and field while attending junior high and high school. It was during his high school years that he became a “pool shark”, a game he continued until 2020 with his children and longtime friends Bruce, Don, and Doug.
After graduating from Jasper Place Composite High Schol, Douglas began working with his father in his father’s propane trucking business. In 1969, Douglas and Jane married. They travelled extensively, including 13 months in England, Europe, and Morocco. In 1978, Dana was born and in 1980 Chad was born to complete their family.
During this time, Douglas became a licensed heavy-duty mechanic. Shortly thereafter, Jane died due to complications of breast cancer. Douglas later married Nola in 1985. The family continued to travel, often camping and fishing in lakes in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Douglas was captivated by the beauty of the northern Saskatchewan forest and lakes. He often wished he could live in the northern forests and lakes. A wish that came true in 2023.
Douglas left us with the memory of a man with strong faith in God and his unconditional love for his family and friends.
