Obituary of Thomas Slonski

Thomas (Tom) Slonski

Thomas Slonski, known to most as Tom, passed away peacefully in Prince Albert on August 16, 2025, at the age of 91.

Tom was born in the district of Samburg, on the family farm near Meath Park, on June 28, 1934. He was the youngest of twelve children. From an early age, Tom was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to find value in all things. He was an excellent and dedicated farmer, willing to take on every farm-related job throughout the year—not just during the growing season. Whether it was repairing or rebuilding an old tractor, searching for parts at an auction, or crafting a replacement piece himself, Tom could always find a way to make things work. When he wasn’t fixing something, he could often be found outside digging dugouts or helping his fellow farmers with their chores. He took immense pride in every task he did.

Tom also believed in enjoying life. In his younger years, he loved attending dances, and it was at one of these singles dances that he met the love of his life, Gloria, 47 years ago. Their life together was filled with fun, adventure, and companionship. Tom and Gloria enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling—often with their camper. In 1999, they built a house in Prince Albert in the Southwood neighbourhood. Tom took great pride in the yard, ensuring the lawn was always the perfect height and the perfect shade of green, while Gloria tended to her garden. Tom loved his fresh vegetables, and together they created a home admired by all their neighbours for 25 years. In his final year, Tom and Gloria moved into a condo, where Tom finally put his lawnmower out to pasture.

Although Tom did not have children of his own, that space in his life was filled by Evelyn and Brian—Gloria’s children—along with all his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly and treated as his own.

Tom is survived by Gloria (wife), Brian Pellerin (wife-Brenda) and their 2 children; Evelyn Winge (partner-Fred Huet) and her two sons; brother-in-law, Emery Durand; sisters-in-law, Rose Slonski and Helen Slonski; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, John and Maria Slonski; brothers, Joe, Pete, Frank, Mike, and Adam; sisters, Pauline, Sophie, and Helen; 3 siblings in infancy; nephews, Garry and Clarence Slonski; niece, Darlene Stankowski and Judy Lupichuk; brothers-in-law, Harry Kalinowski, Adam Stankowski, Walter Durand; sisters-in-law, Laura Durand and Victoria Slonski; and son-in-law, George Winge.

Tom had a long and fulfilling life, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. If you offered him a listening ear, he would happily talk your ear off. When he wasn’t working or fixing something, he loved visiting with people. He had an opinion on everything—just as a true Ukrainian should.

Tom will be deeply missed, but he is now at peace.
