Obituary of Claude Lucien Brassard
Claude Lucien Brassard, age 75, of Honeymoon District, SK, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on December 24, 1949, at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. Claude was the son of Lucienne and Cleophas Brassard. He grew up at the farm in Albertville, SK, and attended Albertville School and graduated in 1968 from St. Mary’s High School in Prince Albert.
Following high school, Claude spent a year at the University of Saskatchewan studying in the College of Commerce. He found employment at The Prince Albert Pulp Mill working as a summer student in 1968 and 1969. Following the summer of 1969, he secured regular employment in different areas of the mill. 1969 was a big year for Dad as also met the love of his life, Gwen.
Claude married Gwen in July of 1970. Together he built a life filled with love and adventure with their children Nicole (Claus Hansen) in 1971, their son Conrad (Carrie) in 1973, and finally Tanya in 1974. His dedication to his family could be recognized by the many events he and Gwen would attend. Whether it was Girl Guides, bottle drives, selling tickets, working in the Dief’s Chiefs booth at the ex, or just attending a sporting event, he would always be willing to volunteer his time for their kids. As the kids grew, to Claude and Gwen’s delight, they were blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Nicolaus (1996), Carter (2005), Jeffrey and Kinley (2007) and finally Sylvie in (2010). His family always knew where Claude’s loyalty was and who he was there to support.
In the early 80’s Claude decided to challenge himself with a career change and went back to school attending Kelsey Institute to earn a pipefitting ticket. He dedicated nearly 30 years to a career as a pipefitter, where he was known for his work ethic and dedication to his job. On December 31, 2005, Claude retired from his duties at Weyerhaeuser Canada and began his life as a retired “farmer” on the acreage that he and Gwen decided to lay down their roots in 1992. On the acreage he lived out his best life playing “farmer” and fostered his love for gardening vegetables, chatting with the chickadees, watching birds in the winter and watching Blue Jays games with one or more of his grandchildren in the summer.
Slo-pitch, hockey, and curling were things that Claude also did when he wasn’t in the garage building something that may or may not have been needed. He was often fixing something that one of the kids had mishandled or simply taking the time to exercise his mind while tinkering.
Claude will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humour, devotion to family and help where help was needed. He left us with one anecdote that will cement his legacy; “You always do for family!”
Claude is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gwen; his children and their spouses; and his five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleophas and Lucienne Brassard, and his sister, Angele.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Albertville, SK, followed by a light lunch at the Honeymoon Hall, Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
