Obituary — David Elliot Reekie

July 16, 1987 – October 29, 2025

The family of David Elliot Reekie is deeply saddened to announce his passing on October 29, 2025, after he was no longer able to continue fighting the personal battles within himself.

David is lovingly remembered by his father Tom Reekie and Tom’s partner Jean, as well as his brother Evan Reekie and Evan’s partner Amber. He was predeceased by his mother, Margo Reekie, whose influence and memory remained central throughout his life.

Born in Saskatoon on July 16, 1987, David grew up with a natural love for connection, humour, and sport. From a young age, hockey became not just a pastime but a defining part of who he was. As a goaltender, he found his place in the crease—a space where his competitive spirit, focus, and resilience shone brightly. Former teammates remember him as a cornerstone presence on and off the ice: steady, intense, and deeply committed to the people around him.

David played through seasons that demanded grit and character, contributing to dramatic team turnarounds and unforgettable moments. He had a gift for lifting the energy in the room, whether through his determination in games or his role in rallying teammates before they stepped onto the ice. His glove saves, competitive edge, and unmistakable presence made a lasting impression on everyone who shared the rink with him.

Beyond hockey, David was known for his warmth, quick smile, and the genuine care he showed to others. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel valued and understood, and those who knew him will remember his humour, loyalty, and generous heart.
