Obituary of Henry Rempel

Henry Rempel, age 65, of Ladder Valley, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 13, 2006. Henry was born on October 20, 1941 on a sleigh headed to Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He was the second of 14 children of Peter and Annie Rempel. Henry started his education outside of Rosthern and completed his schooling in Ladder Valley. As a young man, Henry tried his hand as a boxer, worked the oilrigs in Alberta and North West Territories, and also worked on a farm in Perdue, Saskatchewan. On April 20, 1968 Henry married the love of his life, Helen Bergen. They had a double wedding ceremony with Helen's sister, Tena and her groom Raymond Amundson. Henry and Helen settled in Ladder Valley, raising animals and crops. Henry's first cows were given to him as a wedding gift from his parents. From this modest start, Henry grew the farming operations and with the help of his partner and wife, Helen, "Lazy H" farms flourished. In January 1969, they welcomed their daughter, Myrna into the world and three years later their son Merlin arrived. Henry lived and loved life to the fullest. He was easy going and his laid back nature made him a pleasure to be around. His sense of humor was great and he loved a good joke. Moreover, he enjoyed the outdoors. Henry was a skilled hunter, trapper, and fisherman. For the better part of his days, Henry could be found riding his quad somewhere in the country and applying his vast knowledge of the wilderness. Henry also loved to socialize, play cards and games, discuss politics, and solve all the worlds' problems. Henry loved his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed tickling, hugging, wrestling, ski doing, quading, fishing and frog hunting with his grandchildren. Henry's legacy can be thoughtfully described as; a wonderful husband; a caring father; a loving grandfather; a giving brother and uncle; a trusted friend; a respected citizen; and a good neighbor. Henry's life and spirit of being a "GOOD MAN" lives on. Left to cherish Henry's memory are his loving wife, Helen Rempel; his daughter Myrna (Jimmy) Mindoro and their sons Teryk (10) and Micah (7) of Aurora, Colorado; his son Merlin (Shauna) Rempel and their children Jayden (12), Brett (9) and Evan (3) of Lashburn, SK; mother Annie Rempel; brothers Pete, Willy, Jack (Liz), and Dave; sisters Ruth (Jim) Cole, Ann (David) Ireland, Tina (Terry) Drews, Helen, and Mary (Arnie) Stephen. Henry was pre-deceased by his father Peter Rempel; granddaughter Ashley Rempel; brothers Abe and Wally; and sister Sarah. The funeral service was held on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Big River Community Hall. The officiant was Ken Easterbrook, the organist was Laura Wilson and the Big River Community Choir led the hymns of Safe in the Arms of Jesus, Beyond the Sunset, and Sweet By and By. The eulogist was Bobbi-Jo Reimer and Pam Drews presented a tribute. Pallbearers were Clif and Cory Amundson, Darren and Wayne Kennedy, Tyler Drews, and Calvin Smith. Memorial donations may be made to Big River New Hall Fund. Henry was laid to rest at Lake Four Cemetery.
