Obituary of Agnes Isabella King

Surrounded by the love of her family, Agnes passed away peacefully at her home in the Spiritwood Lodge on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, two months short of her 91st birthday. She was born January 13, 1916 on the family farm west of Saskatoon and attended Smithville School. After attending Normal School, her first teaching job was at the Meeting Lake School. There she met Wilfred King and they were married in October of 1939. Agnes was a loving mother, protective big sister, loyal friend, but always a teacher. Her youthful interests were reading, horses, playing soft ball, singing and going to church. She could play the piano and play an intense game of Scrabble. Later in life, she knit, crocheted, spent time with grand babies, painted many pictures for family, did crossword puzzles, volunteered at the Lodge and led Bible study. She nursed Dad during many years of illness. In 1966 the family moved to Spiritwood where Agnes worked briefly in the hospital kitchen and at the bakery before securing a full time teaching position. She retired from Hartley Clark 25 years ago. She will be remembered and sadly missed by her two daughters Cherry Anne (Jack) Harris of Saskatoon, SK and Linda (David) Hardy of Marshall, SK; her three sons Robert (Anne) King of Spiritwood, SK, Forrest (Marcia) King of Spiritwood, SK and Lee King (Barb Kowerchuk) of Spiritwood, SK her 18 grand children and her 15 great grand children; 4 sisters, 2 brothers as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in 1988, her daughter Isabel Turgeon in 1992, her mother and father Hessie and John Cherry, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. The memorial service was held on Monday, November 27th, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Pioneer Centre with Rev. Leigh Sinclair officiating. The eulogy was read by Cherry Anne Harris. The music director was Bill Martodam and the hymns were Bringing In The Sheaves and Whispering Hope. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Anne's life and the urn bearer was Lee King. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spiritwood Health Complex Foundation - Handi Bus or donor's choice. Agnes was laid to rest in the Spiritwood Cemetery.
