Obituary of William Henry Halcro

William “Bill” Halcro 1924- 2014 William “Bill” Halcro passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2014 with his family by his side. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years Beryl (nee Brown); his children Donna (Jack) Hails, Selwyn, Curtis (Miarina), Quentin (Susan), and Maggie; his grandchildren Kimberley (John) Daniels, Christian (Terri), Candace (Justin) Knight, Cherie (Jason) Vandall, Mathew (Caley Crawford), Meaghan (Mike) Martell, Marcus, Michael (Mandy Ennis), Anthony (Dawn Arcand), Lea (Eric Soron), and Jen Letendre; his great grandchildren Justin, Ryan, Shawna, Kaydence, Jeremy, Alexus, Cayden, Aubri, Jonah, Lukas, Lachlan, Lily, Carys, Markis, and Jayce. He was predeceased by his parents William “WT” and Hannah (nee Corrigal), his four sisters Pearl (Alec) Bird, Helen Comeau, Della (Joe) Snyder, Edna South (Art), his three grandchildren Shauna Welden, Jeremy and Darcy Villeneuve, and Beryl’s parents Allan and Jessie Brown. Bill was born March 19, 1924 in the Red Deer Hill District. At age two he moved to Meath Park along with his father and sisters. He was a WW2 veteran and joined the army at age 18. He landed on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) and was interviewed about that day for the documentary “Storming Juno”. He was wounded in action and upon his return to Prince Albert he met the love of his life Beryl Brown. They were married June 29th, 1949, and they recently celebrated their 65th Anniversary with many friends and relatives in attendance. He also celebrated his 90th birthday this past March with a surprise birthday party held in his honour. Bill held several jobs during his lifetime learning a variety of skills like carpentry, mechanics, bricklaying, and was a commissionaire. He retired from North Park Center after 17 years service. Anyone who knew Bill knew he was a man of very few words but we all knew how proud he was of his children and their families. He loved camping and campfires and there are still a few remaining tea pails that he made for his family over the years. He also loved travelling, gardening and day trips to anywhere the family would be going. On August 5th, after a brief but courageous battle he passed away in the Victoria Hospital with his family at his side and went to his eternal home. He touched many lives in the course of his life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. At Bill’s request a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
