Obituary of Stella Bonik

Mrs. Stella Bonik (nee: Tenz) 1926 - 2014 Stella Bonik (nee:Tenz) 1926-2014 Stella Bonik was born March 3, 1926 in Hepburn, Saskatchewan to Mary Sawatsky. As a young woman, Stella worked in Colddale, Alberta, working the sugar beets; she also worked as a housekeeper for years. After coming home from Alberta her step-father Jake Tenz put her to work on the farm in the sawmill where she met her husband to be, Gus Bonik. Stella and Gus were married on October 24, 1946. After they were married they moved to a farm south of Shellbrook, built a home and started a family. They had 7 children in total. Stella worked hard raising the children, as Gus often was away working out of the province in Rocky Mountain House in Alberta at the elevators. With no running water or electricity, she kept the farm running smoothly and the kids fed and happy. The days were long and filled with hard work which she never complained about. Stella’s favorite pass time over those years was getting up early packing up a big family lunch and going berry picking with the kids for the day. After Gus passed away in 1975, Stella sold the farm and three years later she moved to Shellbrook in 1978, where she lived for 17 years. Stella then moved to Prince Albert in 1995. In her spare time she loved playing cards with her children and grandchildren for countless hours. Stella also loved her bingo, and everyone around her knew that, it was not to be missed. Stella was a strong woman, she was a breast cancer survivor along with many other health issues, but she would never complain. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends, leaving behind a heart full of treasured memories.
