Obituary of Alma Elsie Sachko (nee Parkunow)

It is with great sadness that the family of Alma Sachko announces her passing on January 16, 2007 at Extendicare/Preston Nursing Home in Saskatoon. Alma was born October 27, 1920 at Acadia Valley, AB. At the age of five her family moved to the Kensmith area near Biggar, SK. Alma married William Sachko on March 23, 1945 and they farmed in the Cando area (Queen Mary District) until Bill's passing in 1973. The following year Alma moved to North Battleford and resided there till 1998 when she moved to Saskatoon. Alma will be remembered and sadly missed by her daughters, LORRAINE (Dale) Donohue of Spiritwood, SK. and their children Dawn (Rene) Meckelborg of Calgary, AB and Curtis of Spiritwood, SK; DONNA (Jerry) Schmaltz of Fairview, AB and their children Sheldon (Wendy) of Worsley, AB, Bernadette of Grande Prairie, AB, Jason (Poonan) of Fort McMurray, AB and Leslie (Shawn) of Fairview, AB; LINDA (Ed) Michaels of Coquitlam, BC and their children Darren of Coquitlam, Tracy of Victoria, Carol-Lynne of Vancouver, and Ashley of Victoria; JOAN (Jack) Henfrey of Red Deer, AB and son Dustin (Charity) of Red Deer, AB; JANE (Jim Marchand) of Red Deer, AB; and TERESA (Brian) Hogkinson of Saskatoon, SK and their sons Joshua, Joel and Matthew of Saskatoon; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), her parents Michael & Evdokia Parkunow, brothers Thomas & Elmer, sisters Annie Avramenko, Bertha Parkunow, Martha Heichman, and Polly Polischuk. Alma's wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest at a later date next to Bill at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in North Battleford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Extendicare/Preston, Saskatoon, SK.
