Obituary of Emmitt Earl Cooper
Emmitt Cooper passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2015, at the age of 91, surrounded by his family. Emmitt was born on July 19, 1923 in Govan Sask. At an early age, he and his family moved farther north to a farm in the Eldred area. It was here that Emmitt received his schooling. After grade eleven, Emmitt quit school and started working in northern Saskatchewan in a bush camp cutting logs. In 1943 Emmitt joined the Navy where his time was spent patrolling the Atlantic Ocean. After discharge from the Navy, he started working for the CN Railroad and continued with the CN until his retirement. While working with the CN in Shellbrook, he met and fell in love with Edna Noble. They were married on August 4, 1952. His railroad career took him too many different towns around Saskatchewan, with the final move being to Shellbrook, where he retired in 1985. During his retirement years he especially enjoyed curling and golfing in Shellbrook. He was an active volunteer in the upgrading of the Shellbrook golf course. Travel was also very much enjoyed during his retirement years, as was camping and gardening. Emmitt leaves to mourn: his wife of sixty two years, Edna. His children, Daryl (Pam) of Saskatoon, and their children Calista(David) and Mandy. Doug (Betty) of Candle Lake, and their daughter, Megan. Larry (Denice) of Prince Albert, and their children Jeffrey (Rejeanne), Patrick (Alycia), and Sarah. Also his sister, Geneva, in Toronto. He was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Hattie, and three brothers and two sister-in-laws, Anthony, (Belle), Harry, (Lillian), and Michael. Emmitt was a kind and gentle man who was deeply loved by is family. He was especially proud of his six grandchildren, and celebrated even the smallest of their achievements. No matter how ill he became, his face would light up when one of the grandchildren came to visit. He will be deeply missed.
