Obituary of Alma Farthing

FARTHING, Alma Alma Farthing was born on June 21, 1944 at Hepburn, SK to Jacob and Helena Fehr. She grew up in the Hepburn area. She married Bill Farthing of Leask on March 26, 1966. Alma passed away after a short battle with cancer with her family by her side on April 1, 2015 at the Parkland Integrated Health Center in Shellbrook. Alma is survived by her sons Eddie and Billie, her daughter in law Lynne, and her two grandchildren Courtney and Riley. She will also be missed by her siblings, her siblings in law, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Bill and Alma made their home on the Farthing family farm near Leask. The farm served as a “Summer Camp” for many nieces and nephews and many memories were created during these times. Alma loved to garden and often inadvertently shared her produce with her nieces / nephews. Alma was a very good cook. She loved to make a big pot of borscht with a fresh batch of buns for anyone that was around to help her enjoy them. Alma found her true calling in life when she became a Gramma!! Courtney and Riley were the spark that kept her going. She enjoyed every day that she got to spend with them and their relationship was like the flame from the candle – as the wick gets longer – the flame only gets brighter. She was so proud of them! Her backyard was like a “Summer Camp” to the neighborhood children now! When Bill moved into Wheatland Lodge, Alma would walk up to visit him on a regular basis. Alma enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and driving by you could often see her light on in the kitchen and the girls around the table playing cards. Alma enjoyed making trips to celebrate birthdays with her sisters with the most recent trip being to Jasper to see the mountains. Bill passed away in October 2014 and I'm sure he'd prepared a special place for Alma to join him. Grampa and Gramma are together now – looking down on all of us. We gathered to share Alma's memories on April 7, 2015 at the Leask Community Hall. Delores Beaulac was the officiant. Special memories were shared by Jackie Bold and special music was shared by Helen Klassen. The urnbearers were her grandchildren – Courtney and Riley. She will be laid to rest in the Leask Cemetary on June 21, 2015. Memorial donations will be forwarded to the Parkland Integrated Health Center – Palliative Care.
