Obituary of Alphonse Stephen Heisler

Alphonse Stephen Heisler 1926 – 2015 Alf was born to John and Julia (Leier) Heisler of Allan, SK on October 8, 1926, the oldest of identical twin boys. He grew up on the homestead north of Mildred. Alf left home for the first time in 1946. He married Jean (Marchildon) in October of 1952. Laurie was born in 1953 while Alf worked in Midnapore, Alberta for Burns. Connie was born in 1955 after they returned home to farm at Laventure. Alf and Jean moved around a lot in those early years; Mildred, Laventure, Estevan, and the logging camps of British Columbia. Jean would often be hired on as cook with two little girls in tow. In the spring of 1960 they moved home, five miles east of Mildred, to three quarters of land they had purchased. Their third daughter, Kristy, was born in 1971. Their dream of farming continued for forty years, until they eventually sold the farm and moved to Spiritwood in 2000. As well as farming, Alf worked almost full time as a carpenter. He built many houses in Prince Albert alongside his brother Wilf, and one doesn’t need to drive very far in the Spiritwood or Mildred area to find a house that Alf built or a basement that he renovated! When he wasn’t working on the farm or building in the wood shop, Alf enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and visiting with family and friends. Alf loved to curl in the winters, enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and neighbours, and kicked up his heals at every dance that was held at the Mildred Community Hall. Winter mornings saw Jean and Alf sitting at the kitchen table with a deck of cards between them, and summer evenings were spent out on the fishing boat. Their home was always welcoming to family and friends, and their yard was a beautifully landscaped showplace, their pride and joy. Alf was a wonderful provider for his family. He took care of Jean in their later years, as her Alzheimer’s progressed and what she was unable to do for herself, Alf did for her. They loved, lived and worked for over 62 years, side by side, partners in every way. Alf’s legacy will be lovingly remembered by his three girls and their families. Alf will be loved and remembered by: his loving wife of 62 years, Jean (Eugenie Marchildon), his three daughters and their families: Laurie (Roy) Mayo and their children: Karen (Wade) Fiala and their girls: Abby, Emily and Lauren; Lynne (Dean) Lefebvre and their boys: Ty and Matt; Jillian Mayo; Mitchell (Kayli) Mayo and their children: Ben, Jake and Shae; Connie Heisler and her daughter: Sara (Troy) Tang; Kristy (Tim) Martin and their children: Danny, Katie, Jase and Sydney Rose, his sister, Sister Juliana Heisler, his sisters-in-law: Eva Heisler & Ann Heisler, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. Alf is predeceased by: his grandson, Jeff Yuzak, his parents, John and Julia Heisler, his twin brother, Wilf as well as his other siblings: Emil, Ted, Hilda, Hank, Ed, Gene, Irene and Sam, his parents-in-law, Rudolph and Velma Marchildon, his siblings-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 25th, 2015 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spiritwood, SK. It is Alf’s wishes that you “plant a daisy or a tree and remember me.” Memorial Donations in Alf’s honor may be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc or the Parkinson Society Canada.
