Obituary of Douglas Alvin Macdonald

Douglas Alvin Macdonald 1938 - 2016 Sadly on January 2, 2016, Mr. Douglas Alvin Macdonald passed away peacefully at the age of 77 years. Doug was born on June 25, 1938 in Kelvington, SK, to Archie and Ruth Macdonald. Douglas was raised in the Sturgeon Valley District till he was 4 years old then the family moved to Canwood till Doug was 9. The family went on to move to Deer Ridge where he completed his schooling at Wild Rose Central in 1956. Douglas was married on November 10, 1960 in Sturgeon Valley to Arlene Anderson and they went on to move to LaRonge where he worked for Inco Mining. They resided in LaRonge until July 1998 when they moved to Shellbrook, closer to their family. In 1961 their daughter, Michelle was born. Doug loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren (Roy & Sandi) and always looked forward to their visits. He started with Sask Power in 1968 and retired in 1993. Douglas was a Charter and active Member of the Elks Lodge. He served 14 years in the Air Ronge Council. After Arlene’s passing in 2009, Doug remarried in 2012 to Donelda Horne and moved to Anderson Drive, near Sturgeon Lake District overlooking the lake where they built a home together. Doug loved their place at the Lake, where he could enjoy feeding the birds, watching the deer, elk, rabbits and especially a couple of two year old twin bears that would wonder in. The tranquility kept a smile on his face. As for Doug's request there will be no service held. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Doug to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan (301 - 2550 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1).
