Obituary of Ross Daniel Dunn

The family of Ross Daniel Dunn is deeply saddened to announce his passing on August 29, 2007 at the Big River Health Centre. Ross Dunn was born August 13, 1940 in Big River, Saskatchewan. He was the son of George and Eileen Dunn and the youngest of 14 children. Ross attended school at the Delaronde School until he was bused to Big River. His first job at an early age was working for Martin's commercial fishing. After this he started trucking for many years. Ross married Gloria (Dode) Gallant and they had 2 children, Chad and Darla. Ross started in the logging industry and took a new partner in 1986, his son Chad. Together they worked until the sale of their business in September 2004. In June 1988 Ross, along with Chad, was invested with the Medal of Bravery for his part in helping to rescue Grandpa Alonzo Gallant from a burning shed in August 1986. He also received the Commissioner's Commendation from the RCMP for this rescue. In the last few years Ross loved to be on his boat and out on the lake fishing. He enjoyed taking family members for boat rides. Ross was diagnosed with ALS in April 2006. Although it was devastating news, he had a positive attitude and did not complain. He tried many different types of treatments but unfortunately nothing would help and the disease progressed very quickly. We will all remember him for his calmness of spirit and the kindness of heart that he showed to us all. Ross is lovingly remembered by his wife Dode of 44 years, son Chad (Jeanette), daughter Darla, and grandchildren Stephanie and Nathan; seven sisters Lily Wilson, Blanche Johnson, May, Dorothy (Russ) Wilson, Pearl Hellerud, Ruby (Paul) Vrana, Grace (Ron) Coulter; three brothers John (Barb), Bob and Les. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Loretta Osinchuk and Nora Gallant; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his parents-in-law Alonzo and Gen Gallant, brothers Roy and Clifton and sister Ruth. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Ed Wilson, Art Johnson, Herb Hellerud, Gerard Gallant, Al Osinchuk and Charlie Scrimshaw, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Dunn and Gail Dunn. The memorial service was held on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Big River Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big River Minor Sports.
