Obituary of Eleanor Adrienne Diehl

DIEHL – Mrs. Eleanor 1943 – 2016 Eleanor Adrienne Diehl passed away in the evening of Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the age of 73 years with her family by her side. Eleanor was born to Jenson and Doralis Lehner on January 18, 1943 in the town of Sonningdale, SK. Growing up in those years were hard, Eleanor as a child had her fair share of chores to do on the farm, and evenings consisted of making up their own games. Eleanor held many jobs when she was a teenager, working in a farmer’s market or the garden and in the kitchens. She also worked at the old Holy Family Hospital for a time. Later she worked as a stenographer in the tax department at City Hall in Prince Albert. In Calgary she worked various jobs as a custodian and did office work. At Martins Lake she had worked in the Park, and for 13 years she did the books for their business “Diehl’s Septic Service”. In the summer of 1958 out in the front of the Coop Store in Marcelin, Eleanor met the love of her life, he was 16 and she was 14. Ronald and Eleanor were married February 17, 1962 in Prince Albert, SK, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, they called a few different places home. Starting in Prince Albert, they then moved to Calgary in 1963. In 1976 they made the big transition of leaving the big city to call the farm at Martins Lake home. In 2012 they sold that farm and finally settled down in Shellbrook. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, decorating and collecting dolls and salt and pepper shakers. When they moved to Shellbrook she joined St. Agatha’s RC Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was a communion minister. Later Eleanor even took up painting artwork in 2004 and became very good at it. Eleanor also known as, “Peachy”, “El”, “Auntie at the lake”, and “Girlie”, will be remembered for always being herself. “There is a big part of our family missing, but we know Heaven has gained an angel”. “Grandma we all love you and will miss you very much. When we think of you, we will picture a tiny place on top of a hill overlooking a lake, with a huge garden and beautiful flowers. A place that will always be your home”.
