Obituary of John "Bud" Swanson

Bud Swanson 1939-2016 Bud Swanson passed away at RUH in Saskatoon on September 11th, 2016 with his children at his side. He was born in 1939 to Gus & Viola Swanson and was the youngest of four brothers. Bud’s father passed away when Bud was 11 and was raised afterwards by his Mom and older brothers. Eventually two brothers (Roy & Howard) went off to pursue careers. Bud & Eugene stayed in Big River and eventually ended up farming together for some times as well as Bud working 30+ years at the Big River Mill. In 1965 Bud married Bernice and they were blessed with Joy-Ann in 1970 then Troy in 1974. Bud retired in January 2001 and before he could really begin to enjoy his retirement, Bud lost the love of his life, Bernice to cancer. He spent the rest of his retirement enjoying coffee with his friends, his children, 2 older grandchildren and most recently his 3rd grandchild and 1st great grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Bernice, his brothers Roy & Eugene and a sister in law Bertha. He is survived by his children: Joy-Ann Scott (Ken), Troy Swanson (Anne); his grandchildren Jesse, Sydney & Isabel, and a great granddaughter Mya. His brother Howard and sisters in law Denise & Merle. Although a lot of family and friends did not know he was born John Albert Swanson, “Bud” as he was known to all, will be sadly missed. He will be fondly remembered by all as a perpetual story teller. A funeral service was held in Bud’s honor on Monday, September 19th, 2016 with Pastor Jake McCrea officiating. Eulogy was given by Lee Swanson. Memorial Donations in memory if Bud may be made to the Lung Association.
