Obituary of Gordon Scott
Gordon Scott
1928-2016
Gordon Donald Scott was born December 16th, 1928 in Hafford and passed away September 15th, 2016 at the age of 87. Gordon was the eldest child of Donald and Addie Scott. He had three siblings Ron, Melfort and Fay. At the young age of 13 he lost his mother. This change in his life was a hard one where he had to take on so many responsibilities as a young man. Gordon quit school to help his dad look after the farm and his siblings. He went to work at the age of 14. After a couple years they moved to north of Meeting Lake. His dad married Mary Ouellette and had the luxury of having six more siblings. Clifford, Reggie, Raymond, Lorraine, Barbara and Connie. Mary also had children to add to this big family Elda, John, Bernie and Shirley. Gordon bought a house in Rabbit Lake at the age of 25. He met the love of his life Dorothy Freimark at a dance in Rabbit Lake, and they got married August 14th, 1964.They started out in that little one bedroom house in Rabbit Lake. Not long after they had their first son Bruce and had three more boys Wayne, Blain and Gerry. In January 1980 they moved to Leoville and onto the farm. He worked many jobs including at a creosote plant, doing road construction, operated many machines building roads and drove school bus for 11years. He started his own company doing cat work and after a few years added road building equipment and built many of the grid roads that are still traveled today. After moving to Leoville he continued doing cat work and started his trucking business. He had an Aeronca Chief 2 seater airplane that he was very proud of and loved to fly. At an early age he played in a band that played at many dances. He played Banjo, drums, saxophone and sang. He had a love for music. Anytime he was around music you could see his foot tapping along. The first sign of Gordon’s dementia came in 2007 and Dorothy never left his side and cared for him at home until 2012 when he was admitted into the Evergreen Health Centre. Gordon was a husband, brother, father, grandfather and a friend. He was a likeable man that developed many friendships over the years. He was a fairly quiet man in the community that went about his own business and just went with the flow. As a grandfather Gordon was very proud. He loved to be around his grandchildren. Gordon is lovingly remembered by: his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy; his son Bruce (Sherri) and children: Shyanna & Christina; his son Wayne (Paula) and children: Vicky (Brad) and their daughter, Emma, Caitlin (Nathan), Mikaela (Tyler); his son Blain (Jackie) and children: Jayla & Kali; his son Gerry (Erin) and children: Callum & Kinley.
