Obituary of Jean (John) Arthur Dumais

We are sad to announce the passing of our dad on October 6th, 2007 at the Spiritwood Nursing Home. Dad was born in Vonda, SK on March 13th, 1924 to Sybil and Joseph Dumais. He attended school in Vonda and Mattes but it didn't take him long to realize that school was not for him and soon began his lifelong passion of farming. On October 23rd, 1956 he married Rose Frenette and together they filled their home with five healthy children. Soon the family grew to include in-laws, grandchildren and even a great- grandchild. He really enjoyed his grandchildren and was always happy to visit with all of them especially on Sunday mornings over coffee and cookies at their house. But the thing he couldn't get out of his system was farming which was what made him the happiest. He had never missed a harvest until this year. In July of this year we had to move him to the Spiritwood Nursing Home. With the help of the caring and capable staff at the home, Dad's move was made easier and we will be forever thankful for that. "Dad your time with us will never have been long enough and we will miss you forever but we hope that God will always have one more field of wheat for you to harvest with a good line of John Deere equipment." Jean is lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 50 years Rose (Frenette) of Debden, SK; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild Suzanne (Philip) Grimard of Debden, SK and their children Renald (Sarah) & daughter Afton, Jason (Karley) and Kyle; Camille (Denise) Dumais of Debden, SK and their children Tyler (Candis), Janelle, Nadine and Craig; Denis (Laurie) Dumais of Debden, SK and their children Bradley (Yolanda), Brett and Mandy; Lorraine (Lorne) Ferster of Debden, SK and their children Layton and Layne; and Elaine of Moncton, NB; his brother Alfred (Joyce) Dumais of Prince Albert, SK; his sisters Marie-Louise (Theodore) Croteau of Saskatoon, SK, Edouardine Belair of Debden, SK and Clementine (Bernard) Paquette of Blackfalds, AB; his sister in-law Anita Dumais of Debden, SK; his brothers and sisters in-law of the Frenette family as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sybil (Moonen) Dumais; his two brothers Albert and Arthur; his sister Helene (Edgar) Lajeunesse; and his brother in-law Yvan Belair. The prayer service was held on Monday, October 8th, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. both from St. Jean Baptiste R. C. Church. Rev. Fr. Bernabe Millan Sajonas was the celebrant. The small cross bearer was Layton Ferster and the large cross bearer was Craig Dumais. Lorne Ferster and Laurie Dumais read the eulogy and the soloist was Laurna Parent. Active pall bearers were Renald Grimard, Jason Grimard, Kyle Grimard, Tyler Dumais, Bradley Dumais and Brett Dumais. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Debden Cemetery Fund, Debden Doctor's Clinic or Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. John was laid to rest in the Debden Cemetery. I've planted many a kernel of wheat, welcomed many a morning sun. I've eaten the dust and tasted the wind, And I've gotten many a good job done. I've climbed off the tractor with dirt on my face, And pain in my weary bones, But somehow, I always can master a grin, When I see the light of home. Where my family waits, and the love of my life, Sets a table fit for a king, With her smile, and a coffee mug, I know I have everything. As I trudge once more through the field of my years, And separate the chaff from the grain, I thank the good Lord, I can say in my heart That I'd do it all over again.
