Obituary of Raymond Ubald Lajeunesse

Raymond Ubald Lajeunesse died peacefully on Thursday, December 6th, 2007, at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert at the age of 96 years. He was born in Ham-Nord, Quebec, on March 21, 1911, and at an early age, moved to Debden with his parents. When he was old enough to work, he helped his Dad milk cows and delivered milk in town and also clear land. He later managed to save enough money to buy a team of horses which he was very proud of. He used his team to freight fish from the north. On October 7, 1935, he married Marie-Rose (Lajeunesse) and settled on a farm near Debden until 1966 where they moved to Prince Albert and worked in construction until his retirement. Raymond spent his retirement years visiting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as enjoying special times at Morin Lake. Recently, Raymond and Marie celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Raymond leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Marie, of Prince Albert, SK, his children Gilles (Eugenie) Lajeunesse of Innisfail, AB, Jackie (Marc) Bonneau of Victoire, SK, Diane Lajeunesse (Sisters of the Presentation of Mary) of Victoire, SK, Lucille (Bob) Bonin of Prince Albert, SK, Claude (Marlene) Lajeunesse of The Pas, MB, Paul (Laurel) Lajeunesse of Selkirk, MB, Lynn (Rod) Guard of Prince Albert, SK and Lois (Lyle) Wallin of Prince Albert, SK; 22 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters Simone Kergoat, Terry Stewart, Julie (Roger) Paquette, Camille (Priscilla) Lajeunesse, Jean-Louis (Sandra) Lajeunesse and Larry Lajeunesse as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his son Marcel Lajeunesse, his parents Athanase and Marie Lajeunesse, his brothers and sisters Gabrielle Huot, Edgar (Helen) Lajeunesse, Armand (Lorraine) Lajeunesse, Robert (Hortense) Lajeunesse and his brothers in-law Pete Kergoat and James Stewart. The Prayer Service was held on Sunday, December 9th, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. from St. Joseph Parish in Prince Albert with Deacon Francis Agbezuge as the officiant. Music was performed by Barry Mihilewicz. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, December 10th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Jean Baptiste R. C. Church in Debden. The celebrants for the mass were Rev. Fr. Millan Bernabe Sajonas and Rev. Fr. Matthew Nguyen. The church choir was accompanied by organist Diane Duret and directed by Louise Marchildon. Soloists were Gilles Francoeur and Lorna Parent. The eulogy was read by Dianne Lajeunesse and Kevin Lajeunesse and the cross bearer was Mason Wallin. The Knights of Columbus formed an honor guard at the end of the mass and honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Raymond's life. The active pall bearers were Reo Lajeunesse, Kim Lajeunesse, Ron Bonneau, Brett Bonin, Kevin Lajeunesse and Danny Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Debden Senior's Home Building Fund or Mont St. Joseph Foundation 777-28th St. E Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2. Cremation followed the mass and Raymond will be laid to rest in the Debden Cemetery at a later date.
