Obituary of Joseph Lawrence Halcro
Joseph ‘Lawrence’ Halcro
February 28, 1940 – June 6, 2017
Joseph 'Lawrence' Halcro passed away peacefully on June 6, 2017. Lawrence is survived by his sisters Kathleen McGregor, Inez (Gus) Friesen , Beulah Receveur, Delores (Terry) Walls, Ruth (Dennis) James, and Linda Halcro, stepchildren Jerry (Tanya) Dorion, and Shawn Dorion, and grandchildren Kyle, Skylar, Nicolas, Helen, Nikki, and Abby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Lawrence was predeceased by his mother Mary Ann “Mae” (McNabb) Halcro and father John Halcro, and brother John Wesley Halcro. Lawrence was born in Prince Albert on February 28, 1940 and grew up in the Gerrond District north of St. Louis. He moved to Manitoba in his late teens after graduating high school and worked for International Harvester which eventually became Maxim Trucks and served in their parts department for 44 years. He transferred to Prince Albert around 2001 and retired here. He was an avid Raiders fan and had season tickets for many years and attended all the home games until his failing health prevented it. He enjoyed gardening and was known to share his harvest with those around him. He had a wealth of knowledge about his family history and could answer questions about the connections between different families and always knew who was who when you showed him an old photograph. Lawrence loved being around family especially children who would flock around him at family gatherings. He loved to joke and tease and always had a smile and a kind word. Even as his health was deteriorated he still looked forward to visits from friends and family and we know that he took the memories of these treasured moments with him when he left. The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and compassion that Lawrence received from Dr. Oleksinski, the staff on the 5th Floor and Emergency Ward of the Victoria Hospital, and the staff at the Nelson Care Home. Lawrence requested that he be remembered at a graveside service which will be held at 2:00pm on Monday June 12, 2017 at the Halcro (St. Andrew's) Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prince Albert Christmas Dinner fund will be gratefully accepted. Lawrence will be sadly missed but we are grateful for having shared in his life.
