Obituary of William "Bill" Andrew Adamson
ADAMSON- Mr. William (Bill) Adamson, age 83, late of Shellbrook, passed away in St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007. Bill was born at Gilroy, Sask., on Oct. 18, 1924. When he was eight, the family left the Prairies due to the ravages of the Great Depression. He walked most of the way from southern Saskatchewan to their new homestead in the Moose Plain district near Nipawin. He attended school there, then the family moved to their new homestead in Mossy Vale, where Bill began his working career at a sawmill. In 1944 Bill married Eunice Nelson, and together they raised two sons, James and Warren. They acquired their first quarter of land in 1946 and began their very own home. In 1951 a severe winter persuaded Bill to move to Alberta to work for the railroad. He developed a lifelong passion for trains, especially steam engines. The power corporation bought their land to build the Tobin Lake Dam in 1961, and the Adamson's moved to Shellbrook to farm and raise commercial cattle. Warren and family moved home to help farm, and Bill had two new grandchildren, Wendy and Jana. There was also the family dog, named 'Sooner', because the dog would sooner stay on the couch than go outside like a real farm dog. Bill had a soft spot for animals, whether it was livestock or the pets the grandchildren brought home. Bill was full of stories, witty remarks, and pearls of wisdom. He had simple tastes, and a strong work ethic that saw him up early every morning, and still at work most evenings. Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Eunice; two sons, Jim (Margaret) and children Daniel (Laura) and Sarah- Warren (Lorraine) and children Wendy (Kerry) Wendel, Jana (Josh Robb); great grandchildren Jensen Tyler; sister Jean (Sid) Snaith, brother Eldon (Joyce) Adamson; many other relatives. He was predeceased by his father John Alexander (Jack) Adamson in 1968; mother Mary Agnes Adamson in 1974; sisters Isla in 2000, Doris in 1990, Margaret in 1994, Marion in 1977 and brother James McIntyre (Mac) in 1985, his brother- in-law Floyd Nelson, sisters-in-law Fraces Parr, Bernice Whitrow. The funeral service was held At Knox United Church in Shellbrook on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Roland Legge as officiant. Memorial donations may be made to the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Project. Interment was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Prince Albert.
