Obituary of Opal Louise Stieb

Opal Louise Stieb (McKee) January 15, 1947 to June 29, 2017 With much love and tremendous sadness, we announce the passing of Opal Louise Stieb following a brave and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70 years. Mom was born on January 15th, 1947 at Melfort Hospital. She is the 4th of 5 children born to Arthur and Esther McKee. Mom was a loving and kind person –characteristics inherent as a child. Mom has many fond memories of growing up with a loving family, extended family and neighbors in the Central Park area. When Mom was 7 years old she was hospitalized with a ruptured ear drum. It was during her stay in the hospital, Mom decided that she wanted to be a nurse – a career and passion she never retired from as she continued to work until January of this year when her health worsened yet again. Mom was a wonderful nurse with incredible bed side manner, she genuinely cared about people and it was her talent and gift to make people feel better. The relationships she made as a Victoria Union Hospital student nurse, working at Melfort Union Hospital, as a Public Health Nurse, while working at Parkland Terrace and Home Care, being a nursing aid educator, working for Muskeg First Nation, at both the Men’s and Women’s Correctional Facilities and most recently as a TB Nurse Clinician were long-lasting and cherished. It was during those early days at the Shellbrook Hospital that Mom met and fell in love with a hockey playing farmer from Yankee Valley area. Mom and Dad where married December 18, 1971. Mom and Dad had three children –Shawn, Shannon and Stephen. The years spent on the Yankee Valley farm were filled with the busy times of raising and supporting the children in their interests and activities, nurturing and developing their Christian faith, caring for big gardens, raising chickens and helping Dad on the farm -all while working fulltime. Needless to say, Mom was a busy, hard worker, who always had time for everyone. Mom’s Christian faith was evident in everything she did. Mom’s ability to find the best in people and to love everyone made her a friend to so many. Beginning in 2010 Mom’s life was enriched by becoming a Grandma (finally!). Mom’s wish was to see her grandchildren grow as she experienced so much joy when with her “Babies” –Breeze, Olivia, Bryson and Jacob. Mom’s battle with cancer started in January 2012. Her courage, strength and commitment to faith stayed strong throughout the next five and a half years. Heartbroken, Mom leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Roy Stieb, her children Shawn Stieb, Shannon (Ron) Schlamp and Stephen Stieb and her wonderful grandchildren Breeze Stieb, Olivia Schlamp, Bryson Stieb and Jacob Schlamp. She has promised us all that she will be waiting for us! A service honoring our Mother will be held on Friday, July 7th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Leask with Father Tru Le officiating. A lunch and time of fellowship will immediately follow at the Leask Hall. A Prayer Service will be on Thursday, July 6th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Henry’s. A private family interment will take place on a later date at Honeywood Cemetery. Memorable donations can be made to: Shellbrook Hospital, St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church -Leask or a homeless shelter for those in need. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Beau "Lac" Funeral Home Ltd. Our family wishes to thank those who have helped Mom and our family walk this journey. We find comfort knowing she is with Jesus!
