Obituary of Kate Doris Young

Kate Doris Young passed away on January 14th, 2008 at the Big River Health Centre at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kate was born in Lake Four on November 21st, 1939. She was the sixth child of Severin & Karen Vaadeland. She attended school in Lake Four. She married Leonard Young in 1958 and they settled down to life on the farm in Ladder Valley. The early years consisted of lots of hard work and a few babies. Kate and Leonard had six children. Besides being a full-time mom, she was also Leonard's "right-hand man", milking cows, feeding chickens and pigs and driving tractor. Haying time was always hectic. The four oldest kids can remember spending time at the edge of the field while their parents where busy haying. Kate enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Throughout her life, Kate enjoyed baseball, curling, bowling, gardening - especially her flowers, playing guitar, and it was very seldom that she wasn't either singing or whistling as she went about her daily routine. The door was always open and the coffee was always on for anyone who popped in for a visit, and for those who opted to stay awhile. It must have been the good company and the delicious home cooking that kept them coming back. More recently, Kate enjoyed the many games of scrabble and card games and bus trips with friends. Kate was also a member of the Lakewood Lodge Auxiliary. Kate will be truly missed by all and we will treasure the memories that she left with us.
