Obituary of Lyle Vance Duffield
Lyle “Vance” Duffield
1931- 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Vance Duffield announces his passing on November 12, 2017. Vance was born on November 18, 1931 at Central Butte, SK. He was one of eight children born to Alfred and Sarah Duffield. His family moved from Central Butte to Semans SK. in 1938 and Vance spent most of his life on that farm near Semans. In 1957, his father Alfred passed away, so Vance took over the farm operations. In 1966, Vance married Ethel Doull, a teacher in the Semans School. They settled on the farm at Semans and continued to live there for forty-eight years. Vance was always active in his community. He was a good neighbor and friend and always there to help, whether by snow ploughing out a driveway or driving someone to Regina or Saskatoon for an appointment. He served for seventeen years on the R.M. of Mount Hope, a job he took very seriously. An avid pool player, Vance spent many afternoons at the Semans Rec. Center playing pool with his buddies. After moving to Prince Albert, he joined the group at the Heritage Center and continued to play with some of the men there. He also enjoyed golf and curling. In the summer of 2014, Vance and Ethel left the farm and moved into Semans. Declining health and the need to be nearer medical facilities, as well as a wish to be closer to their families, particularly their two beautiful grand-daughters, led them to Prince Albert where Vance resided until his death. Vance is survived by his loving wife, Ethel, his son Jason (Sheri) and two grand-daughters, Nina and Maya. He is also survived by a daughter, Joelle, who lives and works in Yorkton. Vance also has a brother Kenneth Duffield, who lives in a nursing home in Raymore. Vance was predeceased by three sisters and their husbands; Hope (Stan Johnston) Joan (Hugh Hill) and Beverly Duffield. He was also predeceased by three brothers and their wives; Dennis (Irene) Duffield, Elgin (Irene) Duffield and Murray Duffield. He was also predeceased by a niece Robin Duffield in 2000. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations in Vance’s memory may be directed to the Prince Albert Seniors Heritage Center 1211-1st Avenue West Prince Albert, SK. S6V 4Y8, or to the 6th Floor Victoria Hospital 1200-24th St. West Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4. Special thanks to Dr. Painter, West Hill Medical Clinic and the staff on the 6th Floor for their kindness and service. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
