Obituary of Vimy Martin
Mr. Vimy Martin, age 90, late of Red Wing and formerly of Parkside, passed away in his residence on Sunday, February 3, 2008. Vimy was born on May 7, 1917 to Harry and Mildred Martin, who lived near Parkside. He grew up as part of a large family, and enjoyed many happy experiences of farm life with his brothers and sisters. In 1940, he married Vera Johnson, and they raised three children, Terry, Sharon, and Dale. Vimy and Vera ran a farm, and were involved in their community. When the duties on the farm became less demanding, Vimy took up golf and curling, as well as spending time with his grandchildren, who were very special to him. He was always in close contact with each of them, and was interested in what they were doing. Vimy was kind hearted, helping, caring, generous, humorous, and loved being around people. He had a way of telling you something, and when you thought about it long enough, there would usually be some hidden truth in what he said. After his wife, Vera, passed away in 1999, Vimy traveled extensively with his son Terry to Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, France, and Switzerland and the Netherlands. Vimy loved music, and began to follow a certain musical group, and later married one of the members, Marlene Abdai in 2002.
