Obituary of Bill Skarpinsky
It is with deep sadness that we the family of Bill Skarpinsky announce Bill's passing on February 3, 2008 at the Shellbrook Hospital at the age of 75 years. Bill was born on the Skarpinsky homestead in the Hawkeye District on January 23, 1933. He attended Lynwood School, but being the oldest and his father's health not being the best, Bill left home at an early age and started work on road construction. Bill was able to operate all types of equipment and worked in several different R.M's. He was foreman for several years. In 1959 Bill married Lena Sikirka and they had three children. In 1962, they bought some farm land on the banks of Iroquois Lake and this was their home. Bill operated a mixed farm. Some of his interests were trapping, attending auction sales, visiting with his friends and playing cards. Most of all he loved to hunt and work in his shop. Bill is lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 48 years, Lena of Shell Lake, SK; his sons Jim (Daisy) Skarpinsky of Saskatoon, SK and her children Bradley and Chelsie; Adam Skarpinsky of Shell Lake, SK; his brothers and sisters Peter (Eleanor) Skarpinsky of Mont Nebo, SK, Alex (Joyce) Skarpinsky of Shell Lake, SK, Joyce (Emile) Tchozewski of Saskatoon, SK and Rose (Joe) Wilde of Saskatoon, SK as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Laurie, his parents Mike and Mary Skarpinsky, his brother Paul and his daughter in-law Coreen. The funeral service was held on Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Shell Lake Lion's Hall with Rev. David Jensen as the officiant. The music was by Roxanne Diesen who sang The Old Rugged Cross along with congregational hymns In The Garden and Take My Hand Precious Lord. Gail Stevens was the organist. The eulogy was read by Geraldine Lavoie and honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Bill's life. The active pall bearers were David Lange, Derrick Ryce, Joey Sadlowski, Ken Skarpinsky, Rick Tchozewski and Charlie Pauls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Partners in Worship Church or the donor's choice. Bill was laid to rest in the Shell Lake Cemetery.
