Obituary of Carol Vaagen
Carol Vaagen
December 29, 1959 - January 5, 2018
Carol Vaagen was born in Medicine Hat, AB on December 29th, 1959 to Robert and Violet Kison, she passed away on January 5th, 2018. Carol spent her early years in Edmonton attending school, waitressing and providing homecare. In 1978 she married Ellis Vaagen and moved to Gibbons, AB. Their three sons were born there; Derek (1978-2016), Shaun (1980) and Brian (1983). In 1984 the family moved to the family farm in Shell Lake, where she lived the remainder of her life. Carol loved animals and liked to keep them near, especially her cats, dogs and horses. She loved to go out on the lake fishing, but it always seemed that most of the free days on the farm were nasty weather. After her boys were done their schooling she worked for a time at the Shell Lake Esso gas station. Two very special granddaughters brought Carol much joy! In 2009 she was diagnosed with a form of cancer. She bravely fought it into recession and did go back to work at the Esso. After that she worked for a time in Shellbrook at the grocery store. In 2015 she fought another slow moving cancer, and in 2017 was diagnosed with and aggressive form of cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
