Obituary of Jerry Parent
Jerry Parent
August 2, 1937 - January 7, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Parent.
Jerry was born in Leoville, Saskatchewan on August 2, 1937. He was the seventh of eight children born to Noel and Gertrude Parent.
Jerry grew up in Leoville, after graduation he left for work at Gunner mines for several years till it closed and then came back to Leoville and worked in construction for a few years around the area. Jerry’s next move took him to Pine Point, NWT. where he worked in the Cominco mine and was sent for all his Heavy-Duty Mechanic training. He worked there for over 24 years, when the mine closed he moved to Hay River, NWT for a few years of work before ending his career in the north. In 1989, he came back home to Saskatchewan and bought a home in Spiritwood, SK. In 1990, he decided to go back to work for A. Heppner and Son’s in Meadow Lake as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic for a number of years which he enjoyed.
In his retirement, Jerry spent many hours in his shop making knives with the wood stove going nonstop, he loved the feel and comfort. He attended many trade and craft shows selling his knives, making many wonderful friends. For many summers, he looked forward to traveling to his fly in fishing camp at TSU Lake, NWT (for the Big Fish) with numerous family members and friends that shared in these trips with him. Hunting deer, while he was healthy was a yearly event with family as well. He also enjoyed playing hockey in his younger years and in retirement didn’t miss many hockey games in the local arena, and loved to watch televised sports and outdoor wildlife programs and videos. His love of nature and the bush lead him to pick hundreds of gallons of wild blueberries and Saskatoon berries, of which he loved to share with family and have some favorite dishes made. He had a full good life with family and friends leaving behind wonderful memories. We will miss you uncle.
