Obituary of Sophie Sass

Sophie Sass 1918- 2018 Sophie passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018 at Birchview Care Home, Birch Hills, SK. She was born December 20, 1918 to William and Barbara Tycholiz at their homestead located at Janow Corners and was the last surviving sibling of their 9 children. Growing up, she attended the Janow Corners School. On November 15, 1942, Sophie married Paul Sass and they were blessed with 4 children, David, Eddie, Carol and Dwayne. Eddie passed away in infancy and the family was devastated by the loss of David in 1965. Sophie’s strong faith carried her through the years. Paul and Sophie semi-retired in 1976 when they purchased a home in Prince Albert, but continued to spend summers at the farm. She enjoyed gardening and canning, but most precious to her was the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. Sophie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Carol (Murray “Butch”) Ash and their daughter Buffy; her son Dwayne (Linda) and their children Kimberly (Graham Matsalla), Jason and Kevin; her sisters- in- law Ann Tycholiz, and Jean Tycholiz; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Paul, sons Eddie and David, parents William and Barbara Tycholiz, siblings and their spouses, Annie (Joe) Feschuk, Mary (Louis) Pender, Nellie (Mike) Ewashko, Katie (Ed) Semchuk, John Tycholiz, Peter (Mary) Tycholiz, Mae (Mike) Rogozinski, and Mike Tycholiz, brothers- in- law and sisters- in- law Jessie Greger, Frank (Sophie) Sass, Michael Sass, Mary (John) Zaparaniuk, Pauline (Peter) Sklar, and Anne (Jim) Denesyk. Prayer Service will be at 7:00pm on Friday January 19, 2018 and the Funeral Divine Liturgy will be at 10:30am on Saturday, January 20, 2018 with Fr. Vasyl Kravchuk and Fr. Deacon Harrold Salahub officiating. Both services will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 770 14th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will follow at the Janow Corners Cemetery.
