Obituary of Bella Jean Barber

Bella Barber August 29, 1930 - March 20, 2018 Bella was born August 29, 1930 at her parents’ homestead in the Shell Lake District. She was the youngest of five children and attended Heart of Wheat, Iroquois and Ordale Schools. Bella married Stanley Barber in 1951. They both worked in the Avebury district until the fall when they moved to Blaine Lake. Their daughter Karen was born in 1952. In 1953 they moved to Leask and built a home where they resided the rest of their married life. Their son Dennis was born in 1959 to complete their family. Bella enjoyed many sports and participated on local softball, curling and bowling teams. Playing cards with family and friends was a favorite pass time as well as attending dances in the local area. She worked at various grocery stores in Leask over the years and enjoyed gardening, berry picking, canning, golfing and travelling. Bella will be remembered as hard working, outgoing, fun loving and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. Bella is lovingly remembered and forever cherished by: Her children, grandchildren and a great grandchild: Karen (Neil) Campbell of Calgary, AB and their family: Jennifer (Adam) Washenfelder and their son, Rhett, Bryan Campbell (Sarah Jane Speers), Dennis (Karen) Barber of Saskatoon SK and their family: Evan (Brianne) Barber, Avery Barber (Josh Guillou), her sisters: Evelyn Batty and Irene Anderson also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bella was predeceased by: her husband, Stanley, parents, Swan and Florence Johnson, parents-in-law, Alfred and Maud Barber, sister, May Grimm and brother, Melvin Johnson, siblings-in-law, Walter Grimm, John O. Batty, Milton Anderson, Doris and Frank Dobson, Muriel and Hector Fouquette, Elsie and Walter Duck, Chris Barber, Alfred and Gladys Barber, Marjorie and Harry Hine. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10:30 am from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, Leask, SK with Canon Kim Salo officiating. The eulogists were granddaughters Jennifer Campbell and Avery Barber, Honorary Pallbearers were considered “All relatives and friends who have shared in Bella’s life”, the urn bearers were grandsons Bryan Campbell and Evan Barber. Bella’s final resting place is with her husband at the Leask Cemetery. Following the interment, all present were invited for lunch and fellowship in the church hall. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Bella Barber as tokens of remembrance.
