Obituary of Anna Marie Jacobs
JACOBS – Mrs. Anna
1927 - 2018
Mom was born April 4, 1927 to Pauline and Edward Sommerfeld. She was born at home SW 1/4 1-47-4 West of the third. Her brother Eric was only a year and half younger so it fell to them to be their father's helpers. She lived in the Brightholme district until 1944 when the family moved to the Rosalie district. When the family lived in Brightholme their lives revolved around the church which was just across the road. Mom attended school at Mount Teviot, she often reminisced about the concerts, and track and field meets. She loved being outside working beside her dad and brother..she was quite content to let her older sisters work in the house.
Mom and dad spent most of their lives living in Shellbrook except for 5 years in Kilwinning where dad was elevator agent. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing and the lifelong friends they made. In the later years after the kids grew up and moved out they took up bowling in Canwood. This proved to be a good sport for them, and again they made many friends. After moving to the farm in 1974 Mom worked for Bert Porter for 10 years. It was hard, dirty work but she enjoyed the experience. She always said she learnt so much from Bert and Winnie, who could make the best strawberry shortcake! At the "farm" they enjoyed watching and feeding deer and the winter birds. This became the gathering place for friends and relatives. Mom talked about the time Henry and Esther "camped " at the farm and how much more fun they had than being at the lake. She had a passion for knitting! She created patterns for many of her hooded sweaters and mitts. She was a perfectionist and was able to pass on her skill when she taught knitting to adults through the community college.
After Dad died in 2006 mom stayed in the apartment until moving to Heritage Place, and in 2013 she moved into Homestead Place where she made very good friends. Tile rummay, kaiser, pot luck meals filled her days and nights. She spent her last days in the Parkland Integrated Hospital where she received the most loving and compassionate care from the staff. She was so grateful to be home.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and two brothers and their wives and a sister in law and their families.
There will be a Graveside Service held for Anna on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Shellbrook Cemetery, followed by a time of lunch and fellowship back at Homestead Place, common area.
