Obituary of Leona Fern Paradis

Leona Paradis (Gobeil) passed away peacefully at age 71 on December 9th, 2018 In Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, surrounded by family at home. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer. For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I will sing for joy. Psalm 63.7 Leona is survived by her loving husband: Denis Paradis; daughters: Jeannette (Tom) Caldwell of Regina, SK, and Barbara (Steven) Kessler; and her grandsons: Lucas and Nicholas of Coronach, SK. Leona is also survived by her father: Leon Gobeil; her sisters: Linda (Laurent) Grimard, Lorraine Gobeil, Marlene Regnier and Bev (Dean) Gobeil; as well as brothers: Barry (Lydia) Gobeil, Gary Gobeil, Eddy (Karlene) Gobeil, Gerald (Gail) Gobeil and Leonard Gobeil. Leona is survived by sisters-in-law: Alma (Johnny) Kerley, Suzanne Kopan, Therese Paradis, Joyce Paradis, Judy Banks; and brothers-in-law: Lionel (Shirley) Paradis, Philippe (Cynthia) Paradis, Leo (Christine) Paradis, Richard (Ronda) Paradis and Bill Silver; her Godchildren: Beatrice Remlinger, Antoine Paradis, Bo-Jeffery Gobeil and Travis Gobeil; as well as many loving nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews, aunties, uncles and cousins. Leona was predeceased by her mother: Fern (Middlebrook) Gobeil; her sisters: Jeannette Gobeil, Yvonne Silver, Janice Giesbrecht; and niece: Taylor Litwin. Gone before her were parents-in-law: Cecile and Antoine Paradis; brothers-in-law: Albert Paradis and Raymond Paradis; and her grandparents: Elizabeth and Harper Middlebrook and Alma and Treffle Gobeil. Leona was born April 26, 1947 at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and was baptised at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Leona’s first Gobeil family home was in Henribourg, SK. Her elementary years were spent in Prince Albert. The Gobeil family settled for many years at 301 14th Street West where Leona helped her mother run the boarding house. Leona graduated in 1965 from Prince Albert Technical Institute (now known as Carlton Comprehensive High School) where both of her daughters graduated high school. Upon graduating high school Leona worked at Burns meat packing and with various retailers. In later years, Leona clerked for her father Leon at Hi-way Auction Market. On April 20, 1968 Leona married Denis Paradis at Sacred Heart Cathedral with the reception in Albertville. Once married Leona and Denis found their first home in Prince Albert. Leona and Denis added two girls to their family. In spring of 1974 another dream was recognized and they moved to Spruce Home to begin farming. In November of 1979 Denis built Leona her dream house on the farm. Denis Paradis Construction was born in 1991 where Leona and Denis worked as a team. Their final family home was in Prince Albert. Leona and Denis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April of 2018 with a large gathering of family and friends. Leona was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, auntie and grandmother. She took good care of all of the people in her life and worked hard to support Denis in all that he did. She gave back to the community through her volunteer work with the Spruce Home Elementary School, Spruce Home Trail Riders Arena and the MS Society. Denis and Leona have owned a cabin at Candle Lake since 1998 and have always welcomed visitors with open arms. Leona took great joy in collecting small statues, trinkets and even salt and pepper shakers. She was always feeding the squirrels and birds at the cabin, and enjoyed many weeks there every summer. Leona was very serious about gift giving, and never missed an opportunity to send a card or a gift to mark important occasions. Denis wishes to extend his extreme gratitude to Dr. Dale Ardell and all of the doctors, nurses and staff from Prince Albert medical offices, Prince Albert Home Care Nursing Division, Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon Cancer Clinic and Saskatoon Cancer Patient Lodge for all of their dedicated and compassionate work on Leona’s behalf. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 17, 2018, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 - 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert. Father Douglas Jeffrey will preside. Lunch to follow the Mass. Interment at Albertville Cemetery on December 17th. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations in memory to the MS Society of Canada Saskatchewan Division or The Saskatoon Cancer Patient Lodge.
