Obituary of John Stephen French

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Stephen French of Belbutte, SK. Formerly of Spruce Creek, SK. John was born Dec. 11, 1938 and passed away Dec 17,2018 at 80 years of age. John farmed and ranched at Spruce Creek. He enjoyed working with horses and cattle. He also drove the school bus for Spruce Creek and Edward Lake children, going to Leoville. John, Ruth and girls left Spruce Creek in 1990, settling in Belbutte in 1993. John loved to dance and was known for his jigging. While in Belbutte John owned and operated a septic truck “#1 in the #2 business” He sold the business when Ruth retired from active teaching. He worked hard on his property in Belbutte- building a shop, an addition to the house, a playhouse and several small out buildings. He enjoyed his yard and was constantly thinking “how can I make this better” His pride and joy were his 3 sons and 4 daughters. He used to brag that all his children had got a paper that said they knew something. He is survived by his wife Ruth, his children Brian (Cheryl) Whitecourt, AB; Wanda Kolenosky (Mike) Peace River, AB; Daren (Debbie) Olds, AB; Barry (Maricel) Peace River, AB; Crystal Stevens (Russell) Grovedale, AB; Holly (Darren Spielmann) Meeting Lake, SK. He was also very pleased with his 16 grand children and 2 great grandsons. Especially proud that 4 of his grandchildren had John as their middle name. He was predeceased by his daughter Arlene, parents Herman and Delta French, sister Madeline Goertzen; brother in-laws- Ron Fox, Lyle Wilson and Jack Woods. His family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care given at the BUH especially 3rd floor west. There will be a private graveside service later in the year at Penn Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Battleford Union Hospital, or Partners in Faith, Spiritwood.
