Obituary of Derrick Sasakamoose
It is with great love and kindness that we send Derrick Sasakamoose home. Derrick died at the age of 56 on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Regina, Sk.
Born on September 7, 1962 to Fred and Loretta Sasakamoose, Derrick lived on Ahtahkakoop First Nation and worked throughout Saskatchewan before settling in Regina with his wife JoLee. He worked as a Resolution Health Support Worker where he provided cultural and spiritual support to residential school survivors until becoming a stay-at-home dad to Hunter in 2013. Derrick had a passion for life, the outdoors, and his children. He was a deeply spiritual man and believed in the power of prayer and love. Derrick committed his time and energy to working with and helping people. He was a kind, strong, compassionate and loving man, husband, brother and father. Derrick is best known for his positive attitude, desire to help others, and always reminding his kids to smudge.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, JoLee Sasakamoose and their son Hunter; his children Ron Jon, Jaired, Kalyn, Kyle, Phatemia, Tishemia, and Ryley Gardypie and 19 grandchildren; his parents Fred and Loretta Sasakamoose; his siblings Garth, Kevin, Lester, Debbie, Kerry, Neil amd Ryan and many aunties, uncles, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
The Wake will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 and the Funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Both services will be at the Ahtahkakoop First Nation Band Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Derrick’s name can be made to the Wellness Wheel Medical Clinic (4-E Regina General Hospital, 1440 – 14th Ave, Regina, SK, S4P 0W5)
