Obituary of Mabel Hotvedt
- The family of Mabel Hotvedt are deeply saddened to announce Mabel's passing on June 4, 2008 in Shellbrook at the age of 82 years. Mabel was born to William F and Mabel Reed (nee Russell) on September 17, 1925. On October 25, 1946 she married the love of her life, Henry Hotvedt and together they raised nine children. Their early married life was spent on a farm 2 � miles south of town and it was there that eight of their children were born. In 1976 Henry and Mabel sold the farm and purchased a housed in Shell Lake. Their youngest child was born after the move to town. In 1974, they moved to the home where Mabel lived until her passing. Mabel was employed at the Shell Lake Hotel for a number of years and while working there she made many friends. After Henry's death in October 1987, Mabel kept herself busy knitting, baking, cross-stitching, making rugs, golfing and volunteering in the community. She was a member of several organizations and was never too busy to stop what she was doing and lend a helping hand. In her later years, Mabel enjoyed spending time traveling with her family. Mabel was a warm-hearted loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Mabel is lovingly remembered by her children Gloria (Bill) Skene of Shell Lake, SK, Bernard (Anna) Hotvedt of East Coulee, AB, Donna (Robert) Prafke of Shell Lake, SK, Asta (Lea) Schmalz of Shellbrook, SK, Neil "Bill" (Deborah) Hotvedt of Calgary, AB, Linda Hotvedt (Eric Pechawis) of Saskatoon, SK, Robert "Bob" Hotvedt of Lahaina, Maui, HI, Lilie (John) MacInnis of Edmonton, AB and Deanna "Casey" (Travis) Moseng of Fort MacMurray, AB; her grandchildren Alan (Jessica) Skene and their son Brayden. Brian Skene, Nadina Snyder, Patricia Mandel and her children Sheldon, Allison and Gracen, Lori (Jason) Hubbard and their children Wyatt, Matthew and Brandon, Dawn (Collin) Thomson and their children Tyler and Paige, Ryan Prafke, Brett Prafke, Chad Schmalz, Craig Schmalz, Jeffery Hotvedt, Jody Hotvedt, Angela Hotvedt (Tony Shynkaruk) and children Emma and Shelby, Andrea (Kevin) Epp and their son Kaiden, Blake Nelson and Peanut Moseng; her brother and sister Bill (Colleen) Reed and Fay (Lloyd) Brewer. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Alexander Hotvedt, her parents William Sr. and Mabel Reed (Russell); her stepmother Asta Reed (Hotvedt); her sisters Alice (Cliff) Burrows and Kay (Henry) Berg; her sisters in laws and brothers in-law; and paternal parents. The funeral service was held on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Shell Lake Lion's Hall with Pastor Dave Jensen and Guest Pastor Garry Schenk officiating. Gail Stevens read the eulogy and played the congregational hymns The Old Rugged Cross, Church In The Wildwood and Amazing Grace. The honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Mabel's life and the urn bearer was Neil Hotvedt. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion formed an honor guard at the end of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Partners in Worship Church in Shell Lake. Mabel was laid to rest in the Shell Lake Cemetery. Thank you to all relatives and friends for their love and support during this difficult time. Thank you for the cards, food, flowers and memorial donations to the church and legion. Special thanks to Pastor Jensen and Pastor Schenk, Gail Stevens, the choir and the ladies who prepared and served lunch.
