Obituary of Amy Isobel Potter

On June 15, 2008, Amy Potter passed away peacefully at the Evergreen Health Centre at the age of 103 years. Amy was born on September 2, 1904 in Balmoral, MB to Richard and Lily Fines. When Amy was nine, the family moved to Watrous, SK. From there she moved with her mother to Saskatoon. In Saskatoon, Amy was involved with the Anglican Young People's Association. At a dance they sponsored, she met Alwyn Snaith, who was a member of the "Five Bluebirds" orchestra. They were married in June 1930 and moved to the Sturgeon Valley District. In 1956, they moved into Foxdale to manage the Foxdale Store and Post Office. She enjoyed this opportunity to meet many people. In September 1959, Amy's life changed dramatically when Alwyn died very suddenly and unexpectedly. Amy moved to Prince Albert to Work in Bell's Store. Then a year and a half later she moved to Princeton, BC to take care of her aunt Mabel. After 2 years she returned to Saskatchewan, and worked for 10 years at Lang, SK When she reached the age of 65 she decided to move back "home" to Shellbrook. In 1973, Amy married George Potter, however, George passed away in October of 1976. Amy continued living in Shellbrook until about 10 years ago when failing health meant a move to Rabbit Lake to stay at the Rose Gill Lodge. Less than a year ago, at age 103, her poor health meant one final move to Leoville. Amy is lovingly remembered by her nephews Gordon Fines of Prince Albert, SK and Harry (Dee) Fines of Canwood, SK as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Alwyn Snaith, her second husband George Potter, her parents Richard and Lilly Fines, her brothers Victor, Frederick and Philip Fines and her sister Alice MacCallum. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 20th, 2008 at 11 a.m. from St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Shellbrook with Rev. Peter Boote as the officiant. The eulogy was read by Don Unger. The community choir was accompanied by organist David Hjertaas and a solo was sung by Albert Hannigan. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Amy's life and the active pall bearers were Harry Ohrn, Robert Fines, Ron Fines, Harry Fines, Joanne Fines and Bonnie Green. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Gill Lodge Box 157 Rabbit Lake, SK S0M 2L0 or St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Shellbrook. Amy was laid to rest in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
