Obituary of Ernie Verbonac

VERBONAC- The Family of Ernie Verbonac are saddened to announce the death of Ernie on June 16, 2008 at the Sunnyside Care Facilty in Saskatoon. Ernie is survived by his children, Delbert (Janet) Verbonac, Anne (Don) Reiniger, Debbie (Dave) Walker, Blaine Verbonac, Kathy (Dan) Erker, Karen Blaskow; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his brother Edward (Edna) Verbonac; his wife Gabrielle Verbonac; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne (nee: Benoit); an infant daughter Carol; his brothers, John, Joe, Charlie and George Verbonac; his sisters, Mary Larson, Stella Cook, Angeline Smith, Eileen Bolton. Ernie was born at Chirnside, Sask. on October 4, 1922 and moved with his family to Kilwinning in 1936. Ernie completed his education at Evergreen School. On October 16, 1947 Ernie married Yvonne Benoit in Leask and in 1948 took over the family farm. They raised 2 boys and 5 girls. Yvonne passed away very suddenly on September 18, 1979. Ernie farmed one more year, then rented out his land. In 1984, he married Gaby Robin. Ernie was hard working, honest and proud to be a farmer, and lived on the family farm until Dec. 2007. The Celebration of Ernie's life was held at St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Leask with Rev. Fr. Nick Ferarras as celebrant. The eulogy was given by Clem Lafrance, and the readers were Kim Reiniger, Laurie Lafrance and Danielle Walker. The service was attended by all family and many friends and neighbours. Memorial donations may be made to Sunnyside Adventist Care Home in Saskatoon, or to Wheatland Lodge in Leask. Interment was in Leask Cemetery.
