Obituary of Margaret Coulter Chiverton
Margaret Coulter Chiverton, age 85 years, of Meadow Lake (formerly of Medstead) passed away on September 10, 2008 at the Meadow Lake Hospital. Margaret (nee Fleming) was born on January 9, 1923, the fourth of five children to Mitchell and Edith Fleming of Carruthers, SK. She grew up on the family farm and enjoyed the community social events, particularly sports days and picnics. Margaret was especially fond of playing ball. When WWII broke out, Margaret moved out east to Sarnia, ON to find work. She enjoyed being in Sarnia and often spoke fondly of her time on the shores of Lake Huron with her sisters Elaine and Shirley. She eventually moved back to Carruthers. After the war, she began spending time with a returned soldier from a neighboring community, Lilydale. On November 24, 1947, Margaret married George Chiverton. They lived in Carruthers and ran the Post Office. George also worked with the CNR. They then moved to Cutknife in 1953. In 1960, Margaret, George and their three sons moved to Robin Hood where George became the section foreman. In 1962, they moved to Medstead and eventually George left the railroad and they turned again to the Post Office business. Margaret worked with George in the Medstead office and also in the Belbutte office from time to time. She also delivered Rural Route mail for the surrounding area. George retired in 1980, but Margaret continued to work until 1984. George passed away in 1993 and Margaret moved back to Cutknife in 1999. She later moved to Meadow Lake in 2001. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her sons Don (Lorna) Chiverton of Glaslyn, SK, Murray Chiverton of Saskatoon, SK and Kim (Marika) Chiverton of Meadow Lake, SK; her grandchildren Phoebee (Kevin) Renz of Shellbrook, SK, Michelle Chiverton of Edmonton, AB, Leighton Chiverton of Meadow Lake, SK, Caia Chiverton of Meadow Lake, SK and Ainsley Chiverton of Meadow Lake, SK; her great grandchildren Kolton and Jard Renz of Shellbrook, SK and Haley Chiverton of Edmonton, AB; her sisters Janet Robertson of Cutknife, SK and Elaine Lane of Sarnia, ON; her sisters in-law Francis (Scotty) Wiltermuth and Beth Burkitt; her brother in-law Charlie MacKie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
