Obituary of Pauline Eveline May Bates
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Pauline Eveline May Bates on November 23, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Pauline was born on March 7, 1923 in Croydon Surrey England along with four sisters. She obtained her schooling there and when the war started she worked in the war factories. Pauline's family home was near an airport and was a target area during the bombing of London. She and her family spent many nights in the air raid shelter in the back yard. Pauline met her best friend Edward, who was stationed there with the Canadian Army, and they were married in 1944. Their first child Darry was born there but passed away at 13 months of age. The second child to Edward and Pauline was Rodney, who was born in England, and the family then moved to Saskatchewan in 1947. Pauline had always lived in a large town all her life and to arrive in Prince Albert with all the snow and having to travel to the farm by horse and sleigh was a real shock to her. Times slowly improved and the rest of the family arrived; Colin, Jesse, Barry, Derek, Darlene, Maureen and Randy Jones. Pauline was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great friend to so many people. She had many passions in her life, raising a large family through some hard times, and if it was not hard enough she also raised foster children for 20 years who she loved as her own. Pauline loved her baking, knitting, crafts and always left time for her favorite soap operas. Since the early 1960's her knitting and baking were always entered in the Melfort and P.A. Exhibitions, and along with last summers prizes she had won over 1500 ribbons along with numerous awards. Another of Pauline's accomplishments which her family will all cherish, was her poetry. Pauline was also the secretary treasurer for the Holbein Community Club for over 35 years.
