Obituary of Ione Rochelle Martodam

MARTODAM, Ione Rochelle (née Dahl) September 28, 1924 – May 26, 2020 With the Angels holding her close, our beautiful Mother, Ione Rochelle Martodam rose to Heaven early on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 at the age of 95 years. Ione will be deeply missed by her loving family; children, Ruth Breitkreitz, Carolyn (Orville) Leach, Elaine (Perry) Robinson, Yvonne (Terry McLauchlin) Martodam, David (Janet) Martodam, Florence (Rick) Simpson, and Gloria (Richard) Buck; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; her sister Janice Dubray; her brother Delbert (Mary Jane) Dahl; sister in law Bonnie Klimek; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Ione was predeceased by her husband Clarence; grandson Joshua Martodam; sons in law Lee King and Ted Breitkreitz; parents Ruth and Matthew Dahl; siblings Manville, Eldon, Delores, Eugene, Marilyn, and Carol; and so many other loving family members who are in Heaven to greet her. Ione was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan to Ruth and Matthew Dahl, the second child of their family of nine. She met Clarence Martodam and married in October of 1946. They first lived in Northside where they operated a small grocery store and the local post office, moving to Spiritwood in 1961 where they owned Martodam’s General Store for many years. Ione was highly involved with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed curling, playing cards with relatives, sharing stories of her life and history, keeping family records, and most of all, the visits with her family. To our family, our Mom was strong and resilient, loving and kind, so sweet and unassuming - our gentle guide along our paths. She loved her family and we loved her so. A private family graveside service will be held at the Spiritwood Cemetery where she will be honoured and laid to rest. A larger celebration of her life will be held at a later time when her family can meet to ‘do it right’. Mom always loved the house full of laughter, lots of talking over each other, and an abundance of food! The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful support that our Mom received from the staff at the Spiritwood and District Health Care Centre, where she lived for the past 5 ½ years. She loved her time there and we were grateful for the ability to wheel her over to her home or uptown to the store, when we could. Donations in memory of Ione Martodam may be made to Spiritwood & District Long Term Care Centre as tokens of remembrance. Friends and family wishing to send online condolences may visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Mark Muir, Funeral Director, Beau “Lac” Funeral Home, Spiritwood, 306-883-3500.
