Obituary of Mary Baynes
Baynes, Mary Minnie was born July 16th, 1932 to Johann and Katherine Siemens in Main Center, SK. She went home to be with her Saviour December 14, 2008. Mary grew up on the farm with her two older brothers, John and Herman and three younger sisters, Linda, Olga and Clara during the depression of the thirties. She once told of how she got lost in a dust storm on the prairies. Mary was baptized August 8th, 1945 by her father who was a minister as well as a farmer. She attended school at Lowfarm and Main Center schools through to grade 10. She went on to continue her education by taking Nursing Aide training in July 1961 at Calgary, AB. Mary worked at numerous places after her training like Brooks, AB, Kelowna, BC, Three Hills, AB, and North Battleford, SK. During her stay in these places she met many wonderful people and had many good memories which she shared often. While in North Battleford she met and married Bill Wicks, who passed away after six months. After his death, Mary bought a Christian Bookstore where she eventually met John Baynes. After some visits and letters Jack and Mary were married November 20th 1971. Mary worked in the Spiritwood Hospital for awhile until Jack and her started a family, at which time she stayed home to raise her children. Phyllis (1974), Edith (1976), and Jonathan (1979). Along with raising her children, she was also a big help on the farm planting garden, driving the grain truck and bringing meals to the field. Mary loved her children and husband very much. She was very involved in her church as a Sunday School teacher, Craddle Roll, Sunday School Secretary, WMI treasurer and also provided special numbers singing with her husband. Mary loved to sew, crochet, embroider and do other crafts. She enjoyed banana cream pie, garden vegetables, Sundays at the lake, trips to the mountains and roses. As she grew older, despite health problems, she continued to spoil her husband and children with home cooked meals, fresh buns and bread as well as other home made goodies. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her husband John Baynes of Leoville, SK. Her children Phyllis Baynes of Saskatoon, SK. Edith Baynes of Regina, SK. and Jonathan (Melanie) Baynes of Leoville, SK. Her brothers and sisters Herman (Martha) Siemens of Abbotsford, BC. Linda (Dave) Froese of Chilliwack, BC. Olga (Henry) Siemens of Glenbush, SK. Clara (Walter) Wiebe of Herbert, SK. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as some great, great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Katherine Siemens of Herbert, SK. Her first husband Bill Wicks of North Battleford, SK. Her sister Helen Siemens of Main Center, SK. and her brother John Siemens of Waldheim, SK.
