Obituary of Henry "Harry" Greig
Henry “Harry” Greig
Harry was born on August 1, 1933 in Prince Albert, SK and passed away peacefully in Victoria Hospital on July 31, 2020, one day short of turning 87. Dad grew up in Prince Albert and attended school at Queen Mary and P.A.C.I., and lived most of his life at the same address in the West Hill Area. He married Lorna Greig (nee McLaughlin) on July 15, 1954. They were married for 66 years and had four children, Leslie Garneau, Sandra McLachlan, Shawn Greig and Janice Hill. Dad was grandfather, better known as “Gump”, to 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Dad worked for the CN Railway for 39 years, retiring in 1990 as a locomotive engineer. In retirement he was employed by the RM of Buckland as a dog catcher, as well a part-time job as a landscaper. Dad was remembered by everyone for his “great” sense of humor and his ability to come up with a funny remark out of any situation, he continued to tell jokes and make people laugh right up to his last day. He had a love of antique cars which he and his son Shawn restored, participating in car shows and being involved with Vintage Power Museum and the Melfort Car Club. He delighted in taking his old cars and the grandchildren to be in the P.A. Exhibition parade as well as parades in surrounding communities. Dad was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and was also involved with “AA” in Prince Albert, with 60 plus years of sobriety. Dad enjoyed coffee every morning with the guys until he was no longer able to due to illness, we referred to it as his “office”. Dad’s greatest loves were his family, working hard, and babies. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always wanted to be the one to present them with their first dollar (loonie).
