Obituary of Kenneth Edward Potts

Kenneth Edward Potts April 14, 1947 – February 21, 2021 It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our Dad, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, and friend. Ken is survived by his daughter Pam (Rory) Sharp and their daughter Alicia and her children Blake, Ryley, Ireland and Aislyn, and their son Steven. His daughter Karly (Ryan) Potts-Tucker and their children Dawson (Kaylee), Ashton, and Hunter. His son Dallas Potts and his children Telly, Elise, and Axel. His son Klinton and his children Alana and Eve. His Daughter Kalyn and her children Fayth and Trystan. His sisters Myrtle McMeckan and Doreen Holmes. His nephews Cameron (Kelly) Potts and Shaun (Lori) Potts. Many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents Bill and Mary Potts, his brother Lawrence, great-grandson Jacob, brothers-in-law Bill McMeckan, Gavin Holmes, Harley Wall, and Gary Hegland, His sisters-in-law Lynne Hegland. Ken was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, and the youngest of the children. The family moved back to Big River where dad took his schooling. In his younger years’ dad enjoyed the track, baseball, and hockey (school -not so much), he coached broomball and was a Cadet in his teen years. Dad loved to swim and spent a lot of time on Cowan Lake swimming at Waites’s pasture and running on boom logs. As he became an adult ball and hockey remained a part of his life playing for the Drifters and the Aces. He also liked boating and water skiing and taught his oldest to fish. Ken was married twice. He had his children Pam, Karly, and Dallas with his first wife Dianne Jonasson (Hegland). They divorced in 1983 and he later married Jacqy Potts (Johnson). They had Klinton and Kalyn along with her boys Dennis and Greg. Dad had many jobs over the years. The majority had to do with sawmills or the bush. He worked and lived in numerous places in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and Ontario. He returned to his hometown of Big River to retire in 2013. He reconnected with old friends and made many new friends. Dad was a good man with a big heart who was always there to give a friend a helping hand. He had many struggles in his lifetime. Some battles he won and some he wasn’t able to. “life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming…. WOW, what a ride.” Your ride is over. Rest easy dad and know that you were loved. Thank you to dad’s neighbor Judy, the Big River Ambulance, and Big River RCMP for all your efforts. Dad will be laid to rest in the Big River Cemetery by family at a later date.
