Obituary of Funeral Notice for the late Charles Walker

WALKER, CHARLES GUERNSY: Uzzel Charles Guernsey passed away at the Leoville Evergreen Health Centre on July 24, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Charles was born on July 8, 1913, the oldest of seven children to Guernsey and Anne Walker in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. Charles grew up in the Quill Lake area and completed his Grade 11. He was an avid 4-H member. Charles homesteaded in the Ranger District in 1931, at the age of 18. He was a true pioneer, and he batched for ten years before he married the love of his life, Jessie Booker on July 12, 1941, they spent their first two winters living on the big island on Chitek Lake, they spent many years building their family and working hard on the farm. For years he worked different jobs supplementing the farm until he went into logging and purchased his own sawmill to make railway ties and lumber, he was a community man and volunteered on many boards and in retirement was president of Chitek Seniors. He moved to Chitek in 1978 after they lost their home to fire. His hobbies included berry pickling, socializing and playing games, especially Kaiser, and hunting and fishing, he liked to draw and after 65 took art lessons and then he started golfing at the age of 77. Charles's greatest passion was his family, of whom he was so proud. He spent his final years at Evergreen Health Centre in Leoville, doing something he loved, on a daily basis singing and doing puzzles, Our father, grandfather, brother and friend leaves us a legacy of love, strength, determination, laughter and lifetime of memories. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, July 31, 2009 from the St. Therese Roman Catholic Church in Leoville, SK with Delores Beaulac as officiant, music was directed by Phil Marion with Brianne Chalifour as the soloist. Pallbearers were his Grandsons Brian Painchaud, Curtis Elder, Brent Painchaud, Rene` Walker, Bill Walker and Justin Chalifour. Honorary Pallbearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Charles' life. Charles was laid to rest in the Ranger Cemetery. Charles is survived by his children, Guernsey(Linda), Walker Patricia (Lloyd)Elder, Sharon(Albert) Painchaud, Gary(Wanda) Walker and Mona Chalifour, his twelve grandchildren Bill Walker, Rhonda(Mitch) Andres, Lisa(Darren) Frank, Curtis(Julie) Elder, Bridget(John) Osika, Brian Painchaud (Bonnie), Brent Painchaud (Cynthia), Rashelle walker, Rene(Jessica) Walker, Jessilynne(Rick) Schultz, Brianne Chalifour, Justin Chalifour and 23 great - grandchildren, and his brother Gerald(Elsie) Walker and his sisters Lillian Johanneson and Clara Young, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Evergreen Health Centre, Leoville, SK. Beau"Lac" Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
