Obituary of Tena Mabel Schock
Tena Mabel Schock
July 11, 1926 - November 17, 2021
Tena Mabel Schock (Buhr) was born to Abram and Justina Buhr on July 11, 1922, in Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She was the youngest of nine children.
They moved to Shell Lake when Tena was a child. She attended school at Restall School walking 4 miles each way.
Her mother made her strawberry shortcake with wild strawberries every year for her birthday. When she had taken all the schooling, she wanted she went out working for families as a babysitter, cook and house cleaner.
She met Ryan Schock and when she was 19, they got married on Oct. 24, 1941. They lived on the farm for quite a few years. Judy was born in 1942, Phyllis in 1945 and Eileen in 1952. They then moved into Shell Lake before going to BC for a few years, Ontario for a year then back to BC and then back to Shell Lake, Saskatoon for a year and then they bought the lumber yard in Shell Lake and ran than until they retired. She enjoyed working with Ryan. When she was in her 60’s she got her drivers license and drove for many years. She also became active in the church and the Shell Lake Seniors Club. Being part of the choir was a great joy to her also. Socializing and travelling with friends was another highlight of her retirement years.
After Ryan passed away Tena moved into Schwartz Villa where she lived until she broke her hip in 2015. Confined to a wheelchair she moved into Long-term care in Hafford and then to Shellbrook. She was very content and happy there and enjoyed the staff and the loving care she received.
Tena was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter doing both into her 90’s. She was an excellent cook, and the coffee was always on. She loved to garden and can. She loved to hang her laundry outside and had the whitest whites possible.
She loved her family unconditionally; she accepted any changes in her life with grace and courage. She taught us “what will be will be and don’t complain”! Not with her words but with her actions! Time spent with family was the most important thing to her and we can’t thank the staff in House “C” of Shellbrook Long Term Care enough for the loving care she received when we weren’t able to be with her.
Tena is lovingly remembered by her daughter: Eileen (Doug) Johnson, her son-in-law: Gary (Dorothy) Sandercock, her grandchildren: Janet (David) Martodam, Gary (Brenda) Sandercock, Sandra (Greg) Potts, Jackie Jean-Marie, Carla Helgeton (Dennis), Guy Melton (Christine), Jill (Dan) Cronin, an abundance of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great, great, great grandchildren also numerous nephews, nieces, and cherished friends.
