Obituary of Emma Kingsland
KINGSLAND- Mrs. Emma Kingsland, age 91, late of Canwood, passed away in the Big River Health Centre on July 30, 2009. Emma was born on September 4, 1917, the fifth of ten children, to Fred and Emily Butz, who were farming near Markinch, Saskatchewan. Emma moved with her family to the Boro Green district in 1926, where she attended school until grade eight. She helped out on the family farm, as well as working for other families in the area. In 1936, she married Fred Kingsland in a double ceremony with her sister Laura and Karl Strelau. Fred had come from England to work on a farm. He later took a homestead near Shell Lake, and it was there Emma and Fred began their life together, and had two daughters. They returned to Boro Green to farm, and over the years three sons were born. Emma was content with the simple things in life and enjoyed reading. Emma was a very giving person, she gave of herself, her love, her support, and her concern. Emma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Fay Anderson of Canwood, Colin (Martha) Kingsland of Debden, David (Nora) Kingsland of Canwood, Sid Kingsland of Canwood; her sisters, Helene Ferster of Leask, Katherine (Elwood) Haugen of Canwood, Hildegarde Butz of Canwood; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Kingsland; her daughter, Marlyn (Frank) Howat; her sisters, Laura (Karl) Strelau, Edith Butz, Elsie (Michael) Sommerfeldt, and an infant sister Hedwig Butz; her brother Frank Butz and an infant brother, John Butz; a son-in-law Alf Anderson. The funeral service was held at the Elk's Community Hall in Canwood on August 7, at 2:00 pm with Mrs. Doris Bazley as officiant. The eulogy was given by Elnore Buness. The organist was Grace Buhler, and the hymns were sung by the Canwood Community Choir. The urn bearer was Stuart Anderson. Memorial donations may be made to the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Renovation Project. Interment was in the Canwood South Cemetery.
