Obituary of George Willick
George Ovila Willick was born on Aug. 7, 1931 in Marcelin, Sask and passed away on Aug. 11, 2009. He was the second of eight children born to Albert and Simone Willick. When he was 2 years old the family moved to a homestead southeast of Mildred. As a young boy George attended Mirror Lake School. When he finished school he spent his summers working for farmers and his winters working in the bush until he started purchasing his own farm. In October 1958, George met Emma Jaster at an auction sale. They were married on Feb. 9, 1959 and settled on a farm southeast of Mildred where they lived for 50 years and raised their six children. George loved being a part of the Mildred and Spiritwood community. He played ball and hockey for many years . He also coached Minor Hockey in Spiritwood and the Mildred Mites Ladies ball team for many years. He was always there to help organize or support many community functions. Young farmers meant a lot to him so he would go out of his way to help his kids, grandchildren or neighbors get a start. He realized that young families were the key to a healthy community. When the grandchildren came he hardly missed any of their activities. George always said he would rather watch his grand kids pre-novice hockey games than go watch an NHL game. There was a time for work and a time for play. George believed that we should work hard to have a life but take time to enjoy life. Farming and Family were his life. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Emma.
