Obituary of Lorne Lovberg

Lorne was born on April 6, 1949 in Prince Albert, SK, to Harold and Victoria Lovberg. He was raised and attended school in Canwood and after finishing school, he worked in B.C. then came back home to work for the R.M. of Canwood. Lorne then moved on to truck driving for Les Dunn in Big River, followed by working for the Department of Highways as a mechanic. From there, he took a position as "City Engineer" for the Village of Canwood. Lorne stayed with the Village for 27 years until the spring of 2004 when he retired. Retirement didn't last long as Lorne then moved on to a position with Highway 55 Land Fill. It was off to Polwarth to start on the "Mall" as he called it, where Lorne and his helpers set up the whole operation piece by piece. He stayed there for two years, and finished his employment working back with the R.M. of Canwood. Lorne married Donna Bather and together they had two children, Marcy and Mark. He often talked about how well both his kids were doing and was very impressed with their work ethics; he didn't hesitate to take credit for raising such a fine family. Lorne was a member of the Canwood Elks for 32 years, and was part of the Canwood Regional Park Board and the Canwood Golf Course. Over the years he has been involved in many other organizations. The phrase "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" applied to Lorne. He could plumb, wire, be a mechanic, operate any equipment, carpenter, weld and any other job that came up.Lorne was the King of nick-names. Almost everyone in his life had one, although some may not know it. In fact, Mike just learned that his proper name is Mark. Donna was often referred to as Beulah, and when she was being nice to him her pet name was Plum. Marcy was called Princess. Lorne was known as Punky, Slowboy or PotGut. Lorne loved Christmas and that was obvious by the way the Griswald's house was decorated. When they plugged in,the rest of the town would go dim. When Lorne became interested in golf he went full out. He started the watered fairways project at the park, and worked many hours with volunteer help from the community. Without his knowledge of the water works, wells and equipment, we wouldn't have the beautiful golf course we enjoy now. The last few years, Lorne and Donna have enjoyed some of the winter months in Texas. There were many laughs and good times had on these trips. Lorne loved to have company. There was never a hesitation to put on the coffee pot or bring out the old Royal Red wine. Punky, we know by now that Heaven is probably in turmoil as all the angels will be renamed, and the gates and roads will be repaired. You will be missed by all, but you will never be forgotten as you have left us with a lifetime of memories. Lorne will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna, his children Marcy Victoria Lovberg, and Mark Allan Lovberg(Becky Lins), his sisters Evelyn Baertl, Doris(Ken)Gaines, Joan(Kai)Andersen, his brother Marvin(Mona)Lovberg, his brothers in-law Ray McAvay and Charles Bather, his sister in-law Lorna(Brian)Little as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Lorne was predeceased by his parents Harold and Victoria Lovberg, his sister Edna McAvay, his brothers in-law Walter Baertl and Robert Bather, and his father and mother in-law Dick and Elma Bather. The Funeral Service was on Saturday, Sept.12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Canwood Elk's Community Hall with Pastor Doug Schmirler as officiant; Hugh and Shirley Danberg were the eulogists,Grace Buhler was the organist, Mark Lovberg was the urn bearer, and the Community Choir led the hymns. The interment took place in the Canwood North Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to either the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Project, or the Canadian Cancer Society Prince Albert Unit (54-11th St. E. Prince Albert, SK S6V OZ9).
