Obituary of Zenon Nykola Markowsky
It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Zenon Nykola Markowsky on May 7, 2022 at the age of 75. Zenon, or as he was fondly known as Zeke, Dad, Gido, was born on September 23, 1946. Zenon is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean; his daughter Nykol (Todd) Miller and his beloved grandchildren Ashton and Laine; his son Scott (Monica) Markowsky and his adored grandchildren Sam and Anna; his brother Bohdie (Sylvia) Markowsky; his sister Johanne (Robert) Isbister; his sister Orysia (Richard) Davison; his sister-in-law Carol Markowsky; brother-in-law Richard (Denise) Lowe; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Zenon is predeceased by his parents John and Katherine Markowsky; brother Orest Markowsky; and in-laws Marion and Fred Lowe.
Zenon will be deeply missed as he was known and loved by so many. Every event Zenon went to or place he visited in Prince Albert was filled with others that he had a close connection with. This was sparked by Zenon’s love of family, community, sports and volunteerism.
Zenon’s professional path lead him to being a passionate Educator for over 30 years where he taught in Pelican Narrows, Libya, Prince Albert and Sturgeon Lake providing positive connections with his students and making lifelong friends with his fellow colleagues. Teaching in Pelican Narrows fueled his love for fishing which continued through to 2021 where he embarked on fishing trips annually to the Churchill River with Jean & friends and another with his Minto crew.
Sports have always been a huge part of Zenon’s life. From a young age, his competitive spirit and natural abilities allowed him to excel in football, baseball, hockey and golf. This carried later into his life where he continued to play sports and actively coached his children and taught his grandchildren various sports, not only the fine skills of play but also how to play with class. Zenon valued community spirit which contributed to him actively volunteering for numerous boards, with the Minto’s hockey team board being closest to his heart, where he has been an active member for more than 20 years right up to the time of his passing.
We will miss Dad’s (Gido’s) zest for life, sportsmanship, unconditional love, friendship, patience, compassion, encouragement, sense of humor and anyone who was fortunate to know Zenon will forever remember him.
Our family would like to thank the 5th Floor staff at the Victoria Hospital for the care they provided to Zenon during his final days.
